• Both histograms and PMFs show the frequency of a state.

• PMF = ideal histogram:

  • Histograms are usually empirical, generated from a dataset.
  • Histograms may change depending on the dataset.
  • The bigger the dataset, its histograms will converge to an ideal histogram (a distribution), which the PMF stands for.
