2.5 The Central Limit Theorem

In the special case where our sample statistic is the mean, it can be shown that:

• the sampling distribution approaches a normal distribution.
• an estimate of the standard deviation of that distribution is given by the standard deviation of an individual sample, divided by the square root of the sample size.
